According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, rescue operations are currently in progress amidst the chaos of fire and debris affecting the building’s upper floors.

He also called on the international community to take decisive action against Russia’s relentless aerial assaults. Zelensky emphasized the urgency of overcoming fears to make strong, necessary decisions to end the terror inflicted by Russian forces.

Andry Yermak Criticizes Russian Propaganda

Andry Yermak, head of the President’s Office, has released a video showing the devastating aftermath of the attack. He criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin for propagating “empty horror stories” about a war with NATO, arguing that Russia’s true targets are civilians. Yermak also urged the international community to support Ukraine by providing Western weapons to strike Russian military facilities.

Sequence of Events and Local Impact

The explosions began shortly after 3 p.m. local time. Residents reported a series of blasts, which were preceded by warnings from the Ukrainian Air Force about potential missile threats. Local authorities later confirmed the attack, with Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reporting significant damage to a multi-story residential building. Oleh Synehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, identified the affected area as the Nemyshlyasky district.

Casualties and Ongoing Rescue Efforts

By 5 p.m., the number of injured had risen to 35, including three children. Twelve people were hospitalized, with one woman and a 12-year-old boy in serious condition. Rescue teams continue to work, with some victims receiving treatment on-site and efforts ongoing to evacuate those potentially trapped under the rubble. The latest reports indicate that the number of wounded has increased to 41.

Previous Attacks and Ongoing Threats

This incident follows a separate attack on September 14, when Russian forces struck Kharkiv’s Kyiv district with guided aerial bombs. Although this earlier attack caused a fire at an educational institution and burned nearby grass, no casualties were reported.
